U.S. stocks extend gains midday Wednesday, the Dow rose more than 100 points. Bonds issued by the Government of Portugal and the success of some good news for the banking industry to promote the banking sector led the broader market.
EST at 11:51 on January 12 (Beijing time at 00:51 on January 13), the Dow Jones industrial average rose 103.46 points to 11,775.34 points, or 0.89%; the Nasdaq composite index rose 18.19 points to 2,735.02 points, or 0.67%; Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 11.41 points to 1,285.89 points, or 0.90%.
U.S. institutional investors market strategist at Cantor Fitzgerald Mark - Pardo (Marc Pado), "said the Portuguese successfully issued bonds on Wall Street today, played a catalytic role."
European stock markets rose Wednesday, a leading banking sector gains. Portuguese government successfully issued 1.25 billion euros (16.2 billion) debt. Portugal, the national debt is considered to be basically a win, but Portugal and other investors in the debt-ridden countries are still worried about the long-term prospects.
Pan-European Dow Jones Stoxx 600 index rose 1%, Spain IBEX 35 index rose 3.6%. Italian stock market have risen, the current increase of 2.8%.
